University of Bucharest (Romanian: Universitatea din București), commonly known after its abbreviation UB in Romania, is a public university founded on 4 July 1864 (156 years ago) by a decree of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza to convert the former Princely Academy into the current University of Bucharest, making it the second oldest modern Romanian university. It is one of the five members of the Universitaria Consortium (the group of elite Romanian universities).
The University of Bucharest is considered the most important educational, research, and cultural institution in Romania, acquiring, in its over 150 years of existence, a solid national and international prestige. The numerous generations of students and professors have managed to impose our University as one of the reference institutions for the entire Romanian society, being the first Romanian institution existing in the first 600 universities in the world.
The University of Bucharest offers numerous study programs. All levels and forms of university training: 93 bachelor’s programs, 208 master’s programs, 21 doctoral programs, professional retraining, and improvement programs. All programs offered are accredited or authorized. The University of Bucharest also organizes the TIFFIN EMBA master’s program.
The diplomas awarded by the University of Bucharest are recognized in most countries of the world. Within the University of Bucharest, there are study programs organized in collaboration with prestigious universities abroad.
