Higher Education in Tunisia
Tunisia, officially the Tunisian Republic, is the northernmost country in Africa. The majority of habitants in Tunisia are Arab or Arabized Berbers, and are speakers of Tunisian Arabic.
Higher education in Tunisia has undergone rapid development in the last ten years. Many universities are looking for international students to study in Tunisia, with scholarships and work programs on offer.
Tunisia is home to 20 universities where you can study a graduate program, as well as several institutes of technological studies and institutes of teacher training. Higher education in Tunisia is offered by universities and higher institutes. There are both public as well private higher education institutions in Tunisia.
However, a graduate program, known as the Diplome d’Etudes Approfondies (DEA) in Tunisia take two years to complete and are. To successfully complete the DEA, you will need to prepare and complete a thesis.
Education is the number one priority of the government of Tunisia, with more than 20 percent of government’s budget allocated for education. There are two years of the first educational studies, which leads to the award of Diploma d’Etudes Universitaires du Premier Cycle. The first cycle is a preparation one and the second one leads to the first degree in Tunisian university system.
Many graduate programs in Tunisia are taught in Arabic and French, so international students may have to prove your language skills before being accepted onto a program.

Basic Requirements for Tunisian Visa:
International students must apply for student visa at the Tunisian embassy in their place of residence.
1. Visa application form duly filled
2. Acceptance letter issued from the recognized educational institution in Tunisia: It should include the course duration.
3. A valid passport and passport-size photos
4. Proof of enough funds to support study and living in Tunisia
5. Program fees receipts: The program fees must be paid in full.
6. Medical insurance
7. Proof of accommodation in Tunisia
It is compulsory to fill in a request for a residence permit shortly after your arrival (within a maximum of one month).
Below is the list of the required documents (to submit the police station serving your area of residence) to obtain a residence permit:
1. A copy of your passport.
2. A copy of your registration certificate at MSB along with a copy of the receipt of payment of MSB’s tuition fees.
3. A copy of your lease or proof of residency.
4. Two (02) photos.
5. Two (02) revenue stamps of 10 TND (to be bought at the “Recette des Finances”.
